The Artisan Group is proud to announce today’s Artist Spotlight Feature is Biff Rendar of Biff Rendar Photography!
We caught up with Biff and asked him a few questions about his fine art photography, and his experiences so far working with TAG. Here’s what he said:
My shoppe started a little over a year and a half ago on Society6 and through my personal website. I started to make my photography available publicly at the urging of my wife and some friends. I never really had a clue prior to that, that someone might want to purchase my photos. Now they are available on everything from t-shirts, iPhone and iPad cases, to prints, and canvasses. In the last year my work has been displayed in the Governor of Pennsylvania’s Gallery at the Governor’s office in Pittsburgh, and in a juried show at Westmoreland Museum of American Art, and thanks to The Artisan Group at the CMA Awards show.
What is your favorite product from your shoppe and why?
I guess my favorite piece is the one that really started everything for me as far as making my work available publicly. It’s a piece called “The Door“. It’s pretty simple. I took an old door that was out in my barn and stood it up with a cinder block in my field. It’s amazing the questions I get on how it was done, but honestly that’s it. This piece was featured in the Westmoreland’s Juried Biennial Show last year which was the first show that I ever entered. The best part of this piece are the comments that I have received in reference to what people think it means. It really came about because I saw the door in the barn as I was listening to Keb Mo’s song “The Door”, but it seems to let the imagination run wild for a lot of people. Which is pretty awesome.
Other than photography I have a small farm in Western Pennsylvania, I’m a huge music fan and part-time songwriter, and a political activist on the local, state, and national level.
What do you like best about The Artisan Group?
The Artisan Group has given me some great ideas and perspective as to how to try and make my hobby an actual business. I’m truly amazed at the talent within the group in so many different areas. The amount of information shared, confidence building, and support among the members of The Artisan Group is an amazing asset. The opportunities granted by being a member of this organization are more than I could ever have imagined. My music stationery cards were in the gift bags at the CMA Awards show last year; that wouldn’t have happened without TAG.

Farmer, photographer, songwriter! (Is that all?!) Your photography has really sparked so many imaginations, created inspiration and given us (shall I say it?) a door to open for ourselves! Nice and beautiful work, Biff!
