The Artisan Group is proud to announce today’s Artist Spotlight Feature is Mandy Bryant of The Light Fantastic!
THE LIGHT FANTASTIC
The Light Fantastic is a shop that specializes in quirky, vintage inspired images. I always try to have a balance of elements; not too girly, not too masculine; not too sugary, not too kooky. My vintage camera collection, various adorable shoes, and my lovely children are often the subjects of my little vignettes. I recently began making photo jewelry, and now sell brooches and pendants featuring my tiny photos. It’s like wearing a miniature work of art.
What is your favorite product from your shoppe and why?
I think my favorite piece will always be Two Girls. There are so many reasons why this photo was such a success. It has a great backstory and means so many things to so many different people. Two girls connected forever, not by relation, but by unseen circumstances…it’s kind of powerful. Making this photo happen was such a ‘mad scientist’ moment for me. When a shoot is successful and everything goes right, I go into this weird state of extreme focus. All I could think was, “Yellow cardigan! Argyle socks! Bunny! No, the other bunny!” The whole world fades around me, and I can think of nothing else. It’s kind of maniacal, but kind of awesome, too.
When I’m not working on my shop, I love to sew pretty dresses for my little girl, Chloe. I like to buy vintage dress patterns on Etsy, especially the ones that remind me of Cindy Brady, and make them modern with fun fabrics. I also love to read whenever I can. If I find a book that I love, I will do nothing else until I’ve finished it. When I first started reading the Harry Potter books, I could not stop until I had read all seven. I barely cleaned my house for three months.
